Many coaches want an easy way to record their coaching sessions and other phone conversations. I have found an easy and inexpensive way to do this and here it is.
I have found a great way to record sessions is through a service called Skype.
If you are not familiar with skype don’t worry, I wasn’t either.
It is a free internet phone service that if you do it right and have a good connection online, you will have stellar recordings.
Here is what I did and how it works.
First you sign up for skype at www.skype.com. It is free and very easy to do. Then you need a head set to use with skype. I bought a $15 head set at Wal-mart and it works great.
Next, you need to get your skype account connected with your own online phone number. It is an actual phone number where people can call you who don’t have skype. It works like a normal call. To purchase a number go to http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/onlinenumber/. The prices vary, but you can purchase your number for 3 months for only $18. This is a cheap way to try it out without a big commitment.
Next, you need to purchase a downloadable software called PowerGramo Professional. http://www.powergramo.com
You can try it out for free but if you want to record people calling you that are not on skype you need to pay. It is pretty cheap.
Once you install power gamo on your computer it starts recording automatically as soon as you answer a call with skype. It saves the file and you can then export it as an MP3 and save it on your computer.
I use a editing software called Wave Pad. www.nch.com.au/wavepad/masters.html
You can try it out for free and it is only like $38 to buy. “Instant Download”
You can choose to use any audio editing software you like but I have found wave pad easy to use. It is great for deleting parts of a call you don’t want or for adding a music intro. Or whatever you like.
You should be able to set everything up for less than a $100 and way cheaper if you just want to try the free trials first.
